About Reckless Terrain

About Reckless Terrain

The whole premise behind Reckless Terrain stems from the continued advancements in 3D Printing Technology. How a hobbyist 3D modeler can produce new game pieces and terrain with out the need of a full blown production team and manufacturing facilities.

This is why I use the name of Reckless.

It was a very bold step and frankly a very reckless and bold move. But in 2012 I started researching 3D printers and watching Kickstarter for the next wave of advancements in 3D printing. I knew with a good quality printer and my 3D modeling back ground I could create what I wanted as a Tabletop gamer. Needless to say, 3D printers are not cheap and I simply didn't have the funds to purchase one.
An online 3D printing company called Shapeways was actively printing. So I set up a shop and started my Reckless Store which is still running to this date. Which can be found here https://www.shapeways.com/shops/reckless

Every year I would save up just enough funds to buy a nice 3D printer only to have some sort of emergency come up. Each year the 3D printers specs and advancements would improve. In May of 2017, I ran across a YouTube video for a Mono Price Mini Select 3D Printer and it was turning out very good quality prints if you under stood how to tweak its settings. The only down side was the fact it only has a 4 x 4 x 4 inch build area. As luck would have it, I purchased my printer while on lunch break at work. Buying the last one available while a Version 2 was close to coming to market.

Things rapidly changed over night once I had the printer dialed in.

In mid April of 2017, I noticed a new Tabletop game from Firelock Games called "Blood & Plunder" which is a historical Pirate game. Their rules looked solid and they have full blown ship to ship combat including boarding parties. I took the plunge and started designing some terrain for the game. After a couple of weeks of joining their Facebook page, I realized there was a demand for new items.
Again during my lunch break on a Saturday morning, it occurred to me that maybe I should ask Firelock if they wanted any help designing terrain to support their game. It took every bit of my being to send off that message but I was at a cross roads and would it honestly hurt not to just ask?
In less than 10 minutes I was contacted with a definite interest in doing a line of terrain. In fact they want to reason a whole line of terrain to support their game.

I learned a very valuable lesson that day, you will never get what you do not ask for.

Currently I am doing Freelance work for Firelock games. Once their current Kickstarter calms down, I should resume doing more 3D modeling work for them. Items that are destined to be sold by Firelock games will not be offered here on Reckless Terrain.

What Reckless Terrain offers

Being a tabletop gamer I know that we all work with limited budgets for this hobby. By the time you purchase a game system that you enjoy and are interested in and get things painted up. It doesn't leave much money left over to populate your gaming table. What I am offering is good quality pieces for a reasonable price.

What you will find here

- 6mm Terrain Pieces, Objectives and Mini's for Robotech RPG Tactics & Battletech
- 28mm Terrain and Accessories for Blood & Plunder
- Game pieces and Organizers for Arcadia Quest
- Game pieces for Giant Killer Robots: Heavy Hitters
- Game pieces for Zombicide
- Game pieces for Battlestar Galactica: A Thin Red Line
- Hobby related accessories

What the Future Brings

Besides continued expansion on the offerings currently offered. I have been developing a Hybrid-Tabletop game called; Battlestar Galactica: A Thin Red Line which has been shelved for the moment.  I do plan on offering my own Expansions for games like Arcadia Quest, GKR: Heavy Hitters and Zombicide. These Expansions will offer new Sculpts, Cards and other Accessories. This whole process is going to take time to achieve. I will have to learn a new digital sculpting program, do the graphics work for the cards and  concept work. So this is going to be a slow process.
